Truck Expansion for 7½” / 7¼”

Our new Friction Journal Box casting developed for our Commonwealth Freight Truck will also be the basis for other trucks commonly found throughout railroads. There is no timeline set for the development of the trucks, the more interest on a specific truck the sooner it will get completed. Please reach out if you are interested in a specific design.

• Harriman 2 & 3-axle Passenger Cars Trucks. To be used with various Harriman Passenger Cars used commonly on Southern Pacific commuter and local passenger trains. Trucks also represent designs used on Heavyweight passenger cars.
• Commonwealth Tender Trucks. Commonwealth offered a whole catalog of different trucks for specific uses from freight cars to passenger cars to locomotive tenders. The version shown was a common truck used under steam locomotive tenders all across the US and included fully equilized axles with a swing bolster for high speed operations.
• Buckeye Trucks. 2 version available, 9′ and 10′ wheelbase. The 9′ wheelbase was typically found on freight cars; the 10′ wheelbase was typically found on steam locomotive tenders.

The designs above will be completed with a combination of steel weldments and 3D printed metal parts. This keeps the overall cost low while not sacrifcing on the looks or functionally of the trucks. Goal of the trucks with also be to allow assembly without the need for any machining; no mill or lathe required. Just press, weld, grind, and assemble. The Friction Journal Boxes are made with investment cast steel which is weldable with standard MIG or TIG welders.
