Southern Pacific 53′ & 60′ Flatcar for 1:8 Scale
An expansion of our 41’ SP Flatcar, Pacific Design Shops now offers a 53′ & 60′ version. Designed off F-70-7 for the 53′ and the F-70-3 for the 60′ version, these cars were staples on the Southern Pacific running goods, lumber, piping, and other various loads from the 1940’s to the 1980’s.
This car is perfect for those that want a highly detailed, all steel, riveted flatcar that was common during the transition period. Our design is complete with tab and slot construction to ease assembly and better ensure the squareness during assembly and precut holes for brake lines. Also included is detailed, step-by-step instructions to help guide you through assembly.

Tier I – $610 Included are 29 laser cut steel components, (32) PSC
stake pockets, (8) PSC grabirons, (2) custom coupler pockets and all the rivets (plus some extra) required for assembly. Great for those that already have the tools required for riveting and want to do the welding themselves. Not included is hardware for mounting detail parts and the wood deck.
Tier II – $710 All the components from Tier I but all the riveting
is complete and the kit is ready for welding. Great for those who don’t already have the equipment for riveting but have a welder and desire to complete the kit themselves.
Tier III – $1,200 Fully riveted, welded and E-coated car setup for the trucks and couplers of your choosing (trucks and couplers not included) with all the hardware needed for the detail parts. Also included is the individual White Oak plank deck that is pre-cut, drilled and ready for attachment to the car. Not included is paint and decals but may be purchased for an additional charge.
In addition to the tiers above, we offer options for those on a budget.
Option A, White Oak Decking – $185 Save the time of cutting and drilling your own deck boards and have us do the work for you. White Oak boards provide excellent moisture resistance while accepting a variety of stains to match the color of your choosing. White Oak decking is included in the Tier III price.
Option B, Steel Components only – $460 Save money now and get the detail parts later. Great for those that won’t have time to complete the project for a couple years. All the 29 laser cut steel components are included in the price.
Option C, Rivets – $32. Only want the steel parts but don’t want to spends hundreds on rivets? Precounted bags with extras for your flat car ready when the time comes to assemble.
