EMD F7A & F7B for 1:8 Scale
Target Launch: Q3 2026
Pricing Available: Coming Soon
Perhaps the most recognizable diesel ever created with their stylish “bulldog” nose, EMD F units started the transition from steam to diesel and still exist today on shortline and tourist railroads across the country. Of most notable were the F7 units, with over 3,800 made in both A unit and B unit configurations hauling everything from freight to passenger, they were some of the most popular diesels ever created.
Our engines will continue the great overall appearance and look of F7 units previously produced by Pike River Shops but with modifications to ease manufacturing and assembly for kit versions. The nose will be the same high quality urethane nose produced by Pike River Shops with true-to-scale looks combined with a high strength and impact resistance material. All other structural components of the body and frame will be steel using tab and slot construction for faster assembly, similar to our GP9 units.
With the larger internal body space of F7 units, we are also reviewing an option for a gas hydraulic setup for those that prefer that system over our standard electric system. More information for that option will be available when pricing is announced later this year.
